These Terms of Use govern the use of the Anime Lane Web site. By using, visiting, or browsing the Anime Lane Web site, you accept and agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree to these Terms of Use, you should not use our Web site.

Anime Lane reserves the right to change these Terms of Use from time to time, with or without your consent. The most current version of these Terms of Use can be reviewed by clicking on the "Terms" hyperlink located at the top of the page, and will supercede all previous versions. Use of the Anime Lane Web site after changes are made means that you agree to such changes.

All of the information submitted on the Anime Lane Web site is subject to our Privacy Policy, the terms of which are incorporated herein. Please review our Privacy Policy.

Membership & Payment

Anime Lane uses third party payment processing to handle all transactions. By subscribing to Anime Lane services, you agree to let us charge your credit card for a monthly subscription fee, any applicable tax and any other charges you may incur in connection with your use of our services. The subscription fee will be billed at the beginning of your subscription and on each monthly renewal thereafter unless you cancel. We will automatically bill your credit card each month on the calendar day corresponding to the commencement of your membership. In the event your membership began on a day not contained in a given month, we will bill your credit card on the last day of such month. For example, if you first became a member on May 31st, the following month we would bill your credit card on June 30th. All fees and charges are nonrefundable. We may change the fees and charges in effect, or add new fees and charges from time to time, but we will give you advance notice of these changes by email.

You may change your credit card information at any time by logging into your account and updating the information there. You are responsible for providing us with an accurate shipping address, including apartment # or unit # where applicable. If DVDs that we sent you got lost in the mail because of incorrect address, we reserve the right to charge you the retail price for the missing DVDs. Please always use the sleeve and styrofoam poach when returning DVDs. You will be liable for any damaged DVD sent back without the sleeve and pouch. We will not send any DVD to an address that is deemed undeliverable by the USPS website.

Anime Lane will automatically renew your subscription each month, without prior notice to you, until you cancel your membership or we terminate it. You must cancel your Anime Lane membership at least seven (7) business days before it renews to avoid your credit card being charged for another month of membership subscription. Memberships that have not been terminated will be deemed active.

You may cancel your subscription to Anime Lane at anytime. To cancel, please submit a written notice to accounts@animelane.com. We do not provide refunds or credits for any partial monthly subscription periods. Upon cancellation, you have until your next billing anniversary date to return any outstanding rentals. Failure to return such rentals will result in an automatic charge to your credit card for the suggested retail price of those items.

Anime Lane reserves the right to terminate or restrict your use of our service, without notice, for nonpayment, repeated abuse of our Self Return policy, or any reason whatsoever.

You have to be 18 years of age or older to use the Anime Lane service. If you are not, please let a parent or guardian register for our services for you. In addition to that, some titles available for rent on Animelane.com are rated mature and adults, which may contain explicit sexual materials and are not suitable for viewers under 18. You have to be 18 or older (or 21 or older, depending on your state of residency) to view or rent these titles, and you cannot show such materials to anyone under the age of 18. If you have anyone under 18 who has access to your account, to prevent them from seeing these titles you can unselect the "Viewers 18+ (Adults Only, Hentai & Mature)" rating by going to "My Account" and selecting the "Edit" button. Animelane.com places a warning signs before such titles can be viewed on the website, so if you find such materials offensive please do not click beyond the warning signs.

If you use somebody else's credit card to pay for your monthly subscriptions, in order to commence service, we would need to either speak to the credit card holder or get his/her signed statement (email signed electronically is acceptable) agreeing to the charge for your monthly subscription. In order to rent you titles rated 18 and older (including hentai, adult and mature titles), we would need a copy of the credit cardholder ID/Driver's License proving that he or she is over 18 or 21, depending on your state of residency (you can either scan & email it to accounts@animelane.com or fax it to us at 650-595-2903) and his/her signed statement agreeing to your monthly subscription, for which the rental may include titles rated over 18.

Anime Lane utilizes the U.S. Postal Service prepaid first-class postage to deliver and return the DVDs you have selected to rent. Actual delivery times may vary for you depending on inventory availability, your mailing address, when you place your order and circumstances impacting delivery by the U.S. Postal Service. We will send you an e-mail letting you know when we have shipped your disc and the anticipated time of delivery.

For your convenience in accessing your account, Anime Lane will place a cookie on any computer from which you access our web site. Each time you re-access our web site, this cookie will enable us to recognize you as the account holder and provide you with direct access to your account without requiring you to retype your user id or password, unless you sign out. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account and password and for restricting access to your computer.

Please do not resurface, alter, scratch, apply cleaning solvent or use abrasive technique to try to repair our discs. If you have any problem playing a disc, please refer to our FAQ section or contact Customer Service.

Self Return

You may use our “Self Return” feature to get your next sets of DVDs sooner. To use this feature, simply log in to your Anime Lane account after you have watched your DVDs and mailed them back to us. In your Rental Queue, under the section marked "Item(s) in your possession", click the "Self Return" button underneath the titles that you've just returned. Once you have done this, we will mail the next two available DVDs on your list on the next business day. By shipping your next titles without waiting for your DVDs to actually be received by us, you can receive the next ones 2-5 business days sooner, depending on the USPS scheduled delivery.  Note: Self Return is not an automatic feature; you must log in to your AnimeLane account and click the Self Return button for the discs you've returned. Self Return is NOT available for the FIRST SHIPMENT for any new customers.

However, due to timing discrepancy that may occur on the delivery of the DVDs, when you use “Self Return” two times in a row, we will not be able to ship your next set of DVDs when we have not yet received all of the first set of DVDs you returned through “Self Return.” An example to illustrate this point: you mailed back Cowboy Bebop volumes 1 and 2 on Monday. After you mark the two titles as “Self Return” that same evening, we mailed the next two available titles on your Rental Queue, Cowboy Bebop volumes 3 and 4, on Tuesday. You received these DVDs on Thursday, watched them overnight, and mailed them back on Friday and on the same day mark volumes 3 and 4 as “Self Return.” If we have received volumes 1 and 2 that you mailed on Monday, we will mail out the next two available titles on your Rental Queue on the following Monday. But if for some reason we have not received volumes 1 and 2 that you mailed, we cannot send your next DVDs until we do receive them. Due to possible complication with USPS service, some DVDs may take up to ten business days to arrive. If we still have not received the DVDs after ten business days, we will ask you to file a lost item report with your local Post Office.  

We reserve the right to put your self return privileges under review if you abuse or misuse self return, or of your automatic credit card payment was declined. Repeated abuse or declined payment will cause your self return privileges to be taken off permanently.

To minimize the risk of DVDs being lost in the mail, we suggest that you drop your return envelope either directly to the Post Office or USPS mailbox, or you can hand it to the mail carrier. Lost discs will be noted on your account, unless we receive them back eventually. We will review your account and decide whether or not to charge you for future lost discs. If you lose DVDs repeatedly, Anime Lane reserves the right to suspend or terminate your account and charge your credit card for the lost DVDs at $24.99 per disc.

The Anime Lane web site and its contents are provided "as is" and we make no representations or warranties of any kind with respect to the Anime Lane Web site or its contents. We assume no liability or responsibility for any errors or omissions in the content of the Anime Lane Web site, any failures, delays, or interruptions in the shipment of DVDs, delivery of any content contained on the Anime Lane Web site, any losses or damages arising from the use of the content provided on the Anime Lane Web site, or any conduct by users of the Anime Lane Web site. We reserve the right to ship DVDs in our sole discretion. We disclaim all representations and warranties, nor warrant that the information accessible via our site is accurate, complete or current.

Anime Lane and its officers or employees will not, in any event, be liable (jointly or severally) to you for any special, incidental, indirect or consequential damages of any kind, or any damages whatsoever resulting from loss of use, data or profits, whether or not advised of the possibility of damage, and on any theory of liability, arising out of or in connection with the use or performance of this information. If any applicable authority holds any portion of this section to be unenforceable, then liability will be limited to the fullest possible extent permitted by applicable law.

Many US Zip Codes have local or state laws that restrict the shipping of adult content to them. It is your responsibility to know the laws that apply to your area. If you choose to order from restricted sites, then you have broken the law, and you must indemnify us.
